From the book: chapter 8, p. 8-9
"Embedded within the meaning of reflection also is its dialectical opposite—i.e., action. ... there is always recursive movement in a circular direction as people recollect on experiences in the present and bring them into the future for reconsideration.
When reflection does not lead to action or does not grow out of action, it is empty. ... For action to have substance, for it to be congruent with larger principles and values, for it to be connected to valued historical traditions while also moving toward a preferred future, the activity must be grounded. The grounding comes through conscientious reflective practices. It is in this creative tension that reflection is a source of movement."
