Digital Text Plus (DTP) has pioneered a university level course work package – SociologyOnline.net - for distance education. The core of the project, an online textbook in introductory sociology, is enhanced by direct links to other information sources. To enrich the overall learning experience, the website offers streaming audio and training exercises, message boards and other interactive features. The work was a focus of feature articles in The New York Times and the Chronicle of Higher Education devoted to the significance of new information technology for university instruction. This innovation has received two teaching awards.

I have been the art director, web and graphic designer for the project since its inception in 1998. In the early stages of creating the course website, my responsibilities ranged from conceptualizing and developing the site architecture and designing a user friendly interface to implementing its e-commerce functionality and building individual web pages.

In close collaboration with Lynn Nelson, professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, the course and the textbook author, I created templates for the online and print versions of the book. My responsibilities included creative management, updating website content and maintaining its usability and functionality.

Sociologyonline.net is no longer maintained.
